Oxo Can OpenerOne evening, not so long ago, I was happily making homemade meatballs for a spaghetti feast while chatting with my boyfriend. I was in a hurry and honestly not paying very much attention to what I was doing so when I only removed the top of a can of crushed tomatoes halfway I didn’t think very much of it. But when I tipped the container over my pot of bubbling aromatics my hand suddenly slipped and somehow the lid cut my index finger leaving a 3-inch gash.

I was horrified and blood gushed everywhere while I frantically tried to find something to wrap my poor hand in. Thankfully I was fine and didn’t need stitches, but almost immediately after this kitchen incident my boyfriend purchased the Oxo Good Grips Smooth Edge Can Opener because let’s face it, I’m a bit of a klutz. However, I can proudly report that I haven’t cut myself again on a jagged can since welcoming this must-have gadget into my home. As for my chef’s knife…well that’s a story for another time.

Oxo Good Grips Cherry and Olive PitterEven if you belong to the anti-kitchen gadget camp I think you’d be hard pressed to pass up this handy contraption. Those pesky pits are no match for the  Oxo Good Grips Cherry Pitter. Granted it’s one thing to sit down with a small snack-sized bowl of cherries or olives and daintily set aside the unsightly pits, but what if you have to neatly get the pits out of a pound of olives?  Olives which you are then going to stuff with blue cheese, wrap in pastry, bake and finally serve the little darlings to 20 of your closest friends and family — smashing them with your chef’s knife probably isn’t the best idea… I bet that Cherry Pitter is starting to sound like it might fall into the must-have category. Am I right?
